ANNOUNCING LEILA SAMIR'S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT EP "NO MUSIC"

Leila Samir is an emerging Saudi Arabian electronic music producer and DJ with influences in jazz & Arabic music. Growing up in a religious environment, she wasn’t exposed to much Western music until the age of fourteen.

Out on More Time on Aug 15th, “No Music” is her debut EP; named according to what was reinforced to her growing up. “That’s what I was told my whole life” - she recalls. As well as music production, studying in London has given her the opportunity to explore radio and she has hosted shows on NTS Radio, Balamii, as well as a residency on Worldwide FM. Her radio shows consist of experimental sounds from the Middle East, jazz, techno and more.

Overall, the release utilises a wealth of traditional Saudi Arabian sounds including the eerie opener ‘Bridal’, which as the name suggests samples Saudi wedding music. The track develops into an emotional and melancholy journey with the main melody (sampling an oud) ringing out over an extremely solid bassline.

‘Beginnings’ was the first track written by Leila Samir as part of this project, which is the most club-ready offering in the release. The percussion led roller also comes with an alternate, more mutated version called ‘Ends’ which is also included on the EP.

‘Anxiety’ continues to build on the sinister sound palette maintained throughout “No Music” with frantic drum patterns building throughout.

With early support from the legendary Andrew Weatherall, Zaltan and many more, “No Music” is a landmark release and a clear sign that Leila Samir is a name to look out for in the future.
